Biography

James Picken has a solid reputation in Calgary as an accompanist and piano teacher, and since 1996 has increasingly devoted his energies to mastery of the classical organ repertoire. In 2000, he became a Director of Music Ministry at Knox Presbyterian Church, where he initiated the expansion of the seven-rank Casavant organ with a twenty-rank organ acquired from a church in Winnipeg. He is also accompanist to the Calgary Men’s Chorus.

In addition to his M.A. in Theology from Oxford, Jim holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Victoria, a Licentiate from the Western Board of Music, and is an Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto.

In off time, he enjoys literature, current events, history, languages and hiking.
